What our wood chipper can mulch
- Branches and limbs from pruning and tree removal
- Piles of prunings and garden trimmings you’ve built up over winter
- Fallen limbs and whole trees after storms
- Scrubby regrowth and small trees you’re clearing out
Anything too thick for the chipper is cut into rounds instead. Those can stay for firewood or come with us, and we’ll agree that in the quote.
Why mulch branches instead of burning or carting them away
Burning is restricted for much of the year. In the hills you need a permit to burn for a good part of the year and can’t burn at all through summer. Chipping needs no permit and no waiting for the right weather.
Tip runs add up. A decent pile of branches can be several trailer loads, each with its own drive and tip fee. Chipped, the same pile is a fraction of the size.
Mulch is useful. Spread on garden beds and around trees, it holds moisture in the soil through summer, keeps weeds down and slowly breaks down into the soil.
Keep a clear gap between fresh mulch and your house walls, and between mulch and the trunks of trees and shrubs. Our guide on using fresh wood chip mulch covers where it works best.
How a mulching job runs
- We park the chipper as close to the material as access allows.
- Branches are cut to manageable lengths and fed through.
- The mulch goes where you want it: in a heap, spread on beds, or loaded up and taken away.
- We rake up and leave the work area tidy.
Our chipper is towed, so it needs a track a vehicle and trailer can get down. Tell us about gates, slopes and soft ground when you ask for a quote. If we can’t get close, we carry or drag the branches to it, which takes longer.
What affects the price
- How much material there is, and how big the branches are
- How far it needs to be carried or dragged to the chipper
- Access for the chipper: gates, slopes and soft or wet ground
- Whether the mulch stays or goes
- Travel from our base in Gidgegannup
